Designs for Susan Carnegie Centre, Stracathro Hospital, Brechin

Last Thursday I presented designs at Stracathro Hospital near Brechin. We had been invited by Tayside NHS to bid for a project to create a sculptural seating element for the newly opened Susan Carnegie Centre at the hospital. Happily we won the contract, this will be our first project in our native Scotland which makes it doubly pleasing to have achieved.


Some further design development will now take place before fabrication. The piece will be complete later in the year. As ever I will be posting regularly as the project progresses.

Fingertip Search Installed at Bilston Police Station Feb 2012

 

A frosty early morning start on Sunday 19th February.

By lunchtime the first 4 pieces were installed.

 

The job is completed.

Loading up and off they go….

Friday 3rd of Feb and the Bilston pieces are finally on their way. We are installing them on Sunday 5th so have our thermals at the ready and snow shovels packed as I am informed we are in for snow…. they are going in regardless.

Railing Panels work is underway

The drawings for the Lock Lane railing panels were completed before Christmas.

The first panel has been cut. Hopefully all 8 will be completed by the end of next week.

Bilston piece delivered to studio

 

Horrible wet and windy today, just the sort of day you want to be manoeuvring heavy objects off a vehicle into the yard. Needs must though and we now have all our current projects back at the studio.

The Bilston pieces were delivered at lunch time today.

The work now needs cleaning and oxidising. This will take a few weeks to complete then it will be ready for siting.

After an initial cleaning some fantastic colours begin to appear on the surface of the metal. The Corten will eventually oxidise to a rich red brown colour.

Casts for seating element return to the studio

We’ve now got the 3 stacked pebble casts back at the studio for finishing.

There is a bit of work to do removing excess sand and metal from the casts.

The seating element set up with templates. The seat will be made from a piece of 3” thick oak cut to fit.

Work in progress–Nearly finished

Another trip over to Hull today to check on the progress of the Bilston piece. It should be finished this week and will be delivered to the studio early next week.
