About me

I have over 20 years of experience and success in the creation of high quality artwork designed to withstand the rigours of the public space. Works have been in 3 dimensions, as well as ground and wall based relief. Over the years I have made new works for town centres, community gardens, public recreation grounds, local authority buildings, housing association developments as well as libraries, hospitals and health centres.

The Ropewalk Gates and Railings Installed

 CIMG6585

Installation at The Ropewalk took place on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th May. The old gates and railings were removed so we could begin digging out the new footings.

Some of the digging was easier said than done. Just a few inches below ground level we found the remnants of an old brick building. Hamish and Dave had to dig out he bricks and create a secure foundation for the railings.

Once the footings were dug the railings and gates went in without a hitch.

The linear nature of the piece makes it difficult to photograph in its entirety.

Luckily the sun came out just as we completed work on day two allowing me to get some lovely photographs of the shadows .

Ropewalk Gates and Railings Ready for Installation

The gates and railings for the Ropewalk in Barton will be installed next week. Prior to installation we have accelerated the oxidization process on the Corten Steel. Corten is designed to rust and will eventually form its own protective surface and stabilise. This process can take anything up to 3 years to complete. We have developed a method of accelerating the process so when it arrives on site it will have the appearance of the final surface colour.

The Ropewalk Gates and Railings in Progress

Ropewalk gates and panels in progress

A trip over to South Elmsall today to visit Kinetica Engineering where the railing panels and gates are being cut.

They panels are now all cut and are currently being assembled. Hopefully we will have the work back at the studio towards the middle of this week.

The shadows created by the cut panels are fantastic, I think. Can’t wait to see the whole thing installed!

Workshop at Barton St. Peter’s C of E Primary School, Barton upon Humber

This week workshops were held at Barton St. Peter’s C of E Primary School, Barton upon Humber in connection with the commission we are doing for The Ropewalk Gallery.

The children from year six worked on relief tiles which will become a permanent piece of artwork to be displayed in the school.

The children painted their tiles with a faux patina to resemble rusted metal.

Although the children all used exactly the same materials and paints every tile is individual. It is lovely how they have all turned out different colours as if at different stages of rusting. The completed tiles will be mounted on boards. These will be displayed at The Ropewalk for a short time before returning to the school where they will be on permanent display.
